There are many ways law enforcement officers can get involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR).
Volunteer
Opportunities are available for law enforcement officers to not only volunteer at Torch Run special events, but also at Special Olympics Minnesota competitions. What better way to be inspired to raise funds than to spend a day with our athletes? Law Enforcement volunteers are always needed to hand out awards to our athletes, and to help deliever the Flame of Hope to our Celebration Ceremonies. Polar Bear Plunge
January - March
Polar Bear Plunges are held in various locations across the state. Thousands of individuals raise pledges, then plunge into the icy waters of Minnesota to raise funds for Special Olympics. These events are coordinated by local law enforcement.

Jail 'n Bail

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SEA) fraternity holds the annual Jail 'n Bail fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota. Established in 1995, Jail 'n Bail is now the largest philanthropic event held by a University of Minnesota (U of MN) student organization. Students, faculty and staff can register to be prisoners online. Prisoners send their friends arrest warrants via e-mail to ask them to become prisoners as well. Prisoners then solicit dollars from everyone they know to help them make bail, which is donated to Special Olympics Minnesota. April 15, the members of the SEA fraternity, in conjuction with the Minneapolis and U of MN Police Departments, coordinate mock arrests for participants with warrants who haven't yet made bail. Prisoners are taken to jail throughout the day, which is a tent outside Northrop Auditorium. Mug shots are captured, uploaded to the Web, and then the prisoners use their cell phones to raise additional online pledges for bail to support Special Olympics Minnesota. Once a prisoner has made bail online or at the event, he or she is released!

Final Leg
June 14 - 18, 2010
Officers can participate in the Final Leg torch relay across the state to pass the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope" as it makes its way to Special Olympics Minnesota's Summer Games at the University of Minnesota. Golf Tournaments
Gather your group together and participate in one of our LETR Sponsored Golf Tournaments or hold your own event, with proceeds directed to Special Olympics Minnesota.

T-shirt and hat sales
Year-round
Law enforcement officers sell Torch Run T-shirts and/or hats ($10 each) to raise funds for Special Olympics Minnesota. Encourage everyone -- friends, family and co-workers -- to wear Special Olympics gear and support our athletes! Departmental Coordinators are needed in each department to organize these annual sales. World's Largest Truck Convoy
October 1 - 2, 2010
The World's Largest Truck Convoy is a two-day celebration that helps raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota. This year's Truck Convoy, a project of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Minnesota, will take place on October 1 and 2 at Canterbury Park. Athletes, make sure you bring along your completed waiver so you can ride along in one of the trucks!

Department fundraisers
Local law enforcement departments are encouraged to create their own fundraising events for Special Olympics Minnesota. Softball tournaments, carnivals and truck pulls are all great ways to get your department involved and raise money for a terrific cause.
