You can start your own Special Olympics program!
A Special Olympics program is defined as a training and competition curriculum consisting of a minimum of one athlete and one coach.
There are key people you will need to recruit to begin your program – athletes, coaches and volunteers. Athletes are recruited through organizations that provide services to individuals with intellectual disabilities with in your community, including schools, residential settings and associations for citizens with intellectual disabilities.
Coaches can be recruited from existing local resources including athletic clubs, school and colleges as well as parents and family members. You can recruit volunteers similarly and by speaking to local businesses, churches and civic organizations.
Special Olympics Minnesota will guide you through the process and will give you the tools you need to develop a successful Special Olympics program. Please contact Pam Bergerson to get the process started, allowing more athletes to participate in Special Olympics Minnesota programming!
